Yesterday, the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Fiji with the help of Arti Pratap (Assistant Lecturer Geospatial Science, USP) hosted a remarkable conference as part of the Pacific Dataviz Challenge 2024. The event, presented by Jovesa Tagivakatini, Adviser for GESI & Human Rights Statistics in SPC's Human Rights and Social Development division, brought together students, faculty, and data enthusiasts to explore the power of data visualisation and its impact on addressing key issues in the Pacific region.

Jovesa captivated the audience with his insights into how data can be transformed into compelling visuals that drive policy and social change. With a turnout of over thirty participants, the conference saw a vibrant exchange of ideas and discussions. The students showed great interest, asking numerous questions and engaging deeply with the subject matter. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the high level of interest and enthusiasm for data visualisation within the academic community at USP.

The Pacific Dataviz Challenge continues to inspire and educate individuals across the region. With the extended deadline for submissions now set for July 31st, there's still plenty of time for aspiring data visualisation experts to get involved.
